Steven Robert Mortensen Resident of Alameda, Steven, 65, passed September 15 at the Alameda home he shared with the love of his life of 32 years, Shirley. He fought a courageous battle against brain cancer. Steve was born in Oakland on July 11, 1944 to Robert and Betty Mortensen (now living in Palm Desert).

Steve was the dedicated owner of Mortensen's Carpet in Oakland, a family company founded in 1914 that services San Francisco hotels as well as numerous retail stores in the Bay Area and throughout the United States. His company Capitol Flooring in Oakland, handled residential sales.

He also leaves behind his brothers Tom, Doug and Bradley; nieces and nephews Michelle and Ryan Mortensen and Linc, Dom, Spence, Mitch and Cambria Isetta and numerous aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, cousins and other relatives. He also left behind his devoted employees in the business in which he spent 50 years, as well as his poker club and weekend coffee group. A 1962 graduate of Oakland High School, Steve served in the US Army Reserves for five years.

Their most recent trip was last year from Athens to London where they celebrated their 25th cruise. Steve was loved by all. He was kind and generous to a fault, but above all he was a wonderful person who will live in our hearts forever.
