MARYANNE MASON June 12, 1943--August 13, 2007
MaryAnne Mason will be fondly remembered by a wide variety of friends, and especially by those in the Grand Ave. and Lakeshore districts where she was a frequent friendly presence. She was a smiling face, always eager for a cup of coffee with new friends and old. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1962. She loved animals, coffee, sweepstakes, parties, and most especially, baseball. MaryAnne may have been small in stature, but she was one of the biggest fans of the Oakland A's, attending as many games as she could and collecting a lot of memorabilia over the years. MaryAnne was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she liked to usher and help with the annual rummage sale and other special events. She was quick to volunteer to help in many charity benefits, and was at all times ready for a new adventure with friends. She worked at Pacific Biolabs for many years, among kind and generous people with whom MaryAnne formed a number of long-term friendships.
Despite extra challenges in her life, she met them with a strong sense of independence, and help from Clausen House staff and friends who recognized her special needs. She loved to visit her long-time, close friends in the Santa Cruz area, friends who were like family to her. All of us, friends and colleagues both, will miss her vigor for life and the strength with which she pursued her goals. A service to remember and celebrate MaryAnne's life will be held on September 16th, 2007, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 114 Montecito Avenue in Oakland. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Clausen House in Oakland, as well as to any animal charity would be smiled upon.
