Elinor Kelly Elinor Josephine Kelly Shoai Resident of Oakland, CA After a long Alzheimer's-related illness, Elinor Shoai passed away comfortably on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Born June 30, 1943 in Atlanta and arriving in Oakland at age 5, Elinor attended St. Patrick's, Roosevelt, and Oakland High, graduating in 1961. After obtaining a degree in education at San Francisco State, she began a 30-year career as an elementary school teacher with the Oakland Unified School District. She was a devoted supporter of her many students, creating the regional West Oakland Gryphon student newspaper in the early '80s, and enjoyed public speaking at various school and local events. She is survived in loving memory by her daughter, Shirin Elma Shoai of Oakland. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 10:30AM at Fouche's Hudson in Oakland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California.
