Erwin "Roy" Chen is now happy in heaven chatting painlessly with God, relatives, and friends already there, peacefully leaving behind his loved ones at his bedside, having fought courageously from unexpected complications in his illness on October 1, 2009 in San Francisco. He was born on August 20, 1943 to Teh Yen and Rose T.Y. Chen in Oakland, CA, worked at their family business, China Dry Goods, both his own recording studio and R & M Pro Audio as recording engineer and consultant. He is survived by his wife Maureen, children, Clarice (Phil), Jeff (Elia), grandchildren James, Catherine, and Marc, his brothers Walter (Xiao Qing) and Edward (Janet), their children, Taralyn, Luke and Bradford, his mother-in-law and daily assistant at the store, Annie Wong, Maureen's brother, Kenneth Wong (Blossom), nephews Scott (Cassy) and Richard, great-nephews Brandon and Colin, many beloved relatives and friends here and in France. A funeral service will be held to celebrate his life at Albert Brown Mortuary, Saturday, October 10, 2009, 11 a.m., 3476 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611, burial at Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611 afterwards. A private viewing is available on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Albert Brown Mortuary between 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. Donations may be made to UCSF Moffitt Hospital ICU, 505 Parnassus Street, San Francisco, CA 94143 or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 321 Taraval Street, San Francisco, CA 94116-1954 in his memory.
