Twenty-one members of four vacationing California families perished today in the flaming crash of a TWA airliner near Chicago. Fourteen of them were children.

Three Oaklanders also died in the terrifying impact. They are Mary Kay [sic] Joahnsen, 20, Nancy Walker, 17, and John A. MacKenzie, 69. A woman en route to visit her daughter in Fremont was a victim. So was a Fairfield woman returning to her job at Travis Air Force Base.

Miss Johansen, an only child, had been attending the University of Vienna since last January and was returning to complete her senior year at the University of California where she majored in history. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mary N. Johansen of 1036 McKinley Ave.

She was born in Oakland and had graduated from Oakland High School.
