Constance C. Root July 27, 1940 - Feb. 25, 2007 Resident of Walnut Creek Connie passed away peacefully in her home after a long, dignified battle with cancer. She was born in 1940 at Merritt Hospital, Oakland to Amos and Eleanor Corten. She graduated from Oakland High School (1958) and the University of California, Berkeley (1962). After raising two beautiful daughters, she started a career helping people relocate, and retired from Empire of America Relocation, Pleasanton in 2000. She was a past member of the Junior Alliance and the Daffodils of Lincoln Child Center, Oakland. She loved to read, was a gourmet cook and proficient stitcher.
Connie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Grove; and her two daughters, Victoria Sudderth (Mark) and Deborah McCommon (Scott). Also her sister, Janet Corten Butsavich (Tony), her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Root; her sister-in-law, Barbara Graham; her niece, Shannon Parker (Peter); her nephew, J. Daniel Lilly; and five grandchildren, Thomas and Rebecca Sudderth; and Allison, Emily and Gavin McCommon.
Her family, especially her grandchildren, were the most precious and important things in her life. She was a stabilizing influence on her whole family, always the calm in the storm.
There will be a reception at Blakes at Boundry Oak, 3800 Valley Vista Rd., Walnut Creek on Friday, April 6, 2007, 4 - 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to a charity of your choice.
