In Walnut Creek, February 3, 2002. Born in Colorado May 15, 1937, she had been
a 40 year resident of Dublin/San Ramon.Karen was a graduate of U.C. Berkeley with a Masters Degree
in Public Health. Karen inspired students for 35 years teaching microbiology at U.C. Berkeley. She
was honored with "The Berkeley Citation" for distinguished achievement and for notable service to
the University by the Chancellor. A member of P.E.O. Dublin Women's Club and chairperson for the
California Society of Microbiology (CSM) she enjoyed hiking in Yosemite, reading, sewing, bridge,
tennis, swimming, squash and most of all spending time with her family. Karen will be missed by
her husband of 45 years, Marshall Grant, and was the loving mother of three children, Steve and
Jim Grant, and Cindy Garratt, and the adoring grandmother of 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Keith,
Jamie, Matt, Jana, Justin, Garat, Samantha, Luke and Beau. She also leaves a sister, Marcia Roberts
of Chicago.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Karen's Life on Friday, February
8, 2002 4:00 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, 222 W. El Pintado Rd., Danville, CA.
