After a valiant 6 year battle against cancer, Mom left this life on September 14th in peace and light.

Born in Turlock, CA, she was the only child of John Mendoza and Edna Deckwa who nicknamed her "Tiny". She graduated from Oakland High in 1949 with a singular aspiration to be "A mother." Settling in Lafayette to raise her family in 1959, she was a resilient, sentimental soul, an animal lover, and keeper of memories. Mom cherished her family, friends and home and was a selfless caretaker to the silent, broken and unwanted. Mom, your love, kindness, generosity and sacrifice touched so many and we are so very proud to be your daughters. "You did good."

Florene is survived by her daughters Marna Obermiller and Lorene Bowers, and grandchildren Jessica and Nathan Obermiller. Private memorial. Please make donations in Florene's name to Hospice of the East Bay (http://hospiceeastbay.org/) under the "Bruns House Campaign" section.
