Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Arthur (Dutch) Hance passed
away on November 3, 2008, in his home. Born on June 24, 1930, in Sunnyvale, Calif., Mr.
Hance had lived in Rancho Cordova for the past 42 years. Mr. Hance grew up in both Arizona
and California before beginning a long military career. He attended Oakland High School in
Oakland, California. Mr. Hance served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Geodetic Survey for two
years, in the Merchant Marines for two years and the United States Air Force for 20 years.
During his military tenure, he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas; Illinois; New Mexico;
France; Germany; and at Mather Air Force Base. He retired from the Air Force as a Tech Sergeant,
having served in the military for 22 years. He also worked for three years for the Cordova
Recreation and Park District; as a self-employed commercial fisherman for two years; and in
the military sealift command for more than 10 years. Mr. Hance was an avid fisherman who also
loved hunting. He was a 20-year member of the American Legion and a member of the Moose Lodge
for three years.
Mr. Hance is survived by his wife of 55 years, Freida; daughter Kimberly Young
and son-in-law Gary Young of Shingle Springs; son Michael Johnson and daughter-in-law Christine
Johnson of Auburn; granddaughter Sara (Will) Hindmarch of Atlanta, Ga.; and grandsons Levi Young
of Sacramento and Bryan Chalecki of Southern California. Mr. Hance was preceded in death by his
daughter Kelli Chalecki.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation on Friday, November 7,
between 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at MOUNT VERNON MEMORIAL PARK, 8201
Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks. Ron Short of Lakehills Covenant Church will officiate. Memorial
contributions in Mr. Hance's name may be made to Mercy Hospice.
