JOHN HOWARD WALTERS, Surrounded at his bedside by his devoted family, died Saturday, August 4, 2001 at Community
Hospital of Los Gatos after a seven year battle with prostate cancer.
John was born in Oakland on April 16, 1929. As a boy he was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed visiting the family
cabin at Clearlake. He spent summers working for the California Department of Forestry while attending Oakland High
School. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and upon his return to the Bay Area received a business
degree from San Francisco State University in 1955.
John began his career in the commercial/industrial glass business as an estimator for Cobbedick-Kibbe Glass Company, and
later for Hart Glass.
In 1977, he and Randy Wolf founded Walters and Wolf Glass Company, now a prominent industry leader on the West Coast.
John retired from the glass business in 1987. Having always been interested in antiques, John and his wife started a
business in that field.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan, children Laura and her husband Robert Foster of San Diego; Linda Walters of
Ashland, Oregon, Bill and his wife Katie of Loveland, Colorado and grandchildren Katherine Foster and Mathew Foster.
Friends are invited to a memorial service on Wednesday, August 15, at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont
Ave in Oakland, California.
