Lloyd M. Shikany Resident of Pleasant Hill
Lloyd M. Shikany passed away peacefully,
with his family by his side at his home in Pleasant Hill, CA on November 11, 2008 at
the age of 81 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Sacramento, CA on
February 11, 1927 and shortly thereafter the family of ten moved to Oakland, CA.
He graduated from Oakland High and served in the Army as part of the occupation troops
in Japan at the end of WWII. He graduated from Golden Gate College in 1950 with a B.A.
in Business Administration, and married Jeanne Mittry in July 1952.
The majority of his
career was spent as an executive in the waste paper industry, beginning with Independent
Paper Stock Company and ending with Settsu Corporation, after which he continued as an industry
consultant for several years. He traveled internationally during his career, developing a
particular fondness for Japan and its people. He was known as a man of extraordinary honesty
and integrity in both his professional and personal life, and was held in high esteem by all
who knew him.
He loved his work, cars, football, travel, and all things financial. Most of
all he loved his family and was always there, ready to offer his wisdom, his support, and his
enduring love. In his later years, "Papa" especially treasured the time he spent with his
grandson, Michael, during his summer visits. Lloyd's humanity enriched the lives of all who
knew him. He was loved deeply by his family, and he will be truly missed and forever in our
hearts.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years Jeanne; his daughter Lisa Shikany and her
husband Tim Meyers of Fortuna, CA; his son Dr. James Shikany, his wife Tammy, and their children
Rachel and Michael of Hoover, AL; his sister Gladys Zachariah of Sebastopol, CA; and many nieces
and nephews.
He will be laid to rest Friday, November 14th at a private graveside service at
Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of
Lloyd's life at 1 p.m. that afternoon at Zio Fraedo's, 611 Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill.
