Richard H. (Dick) James entered peacefully into rest at his home on May 17,
2002. He was 74 years old. A native of Oakland, CA, and a resident of Walnut Creek for the
past 26 years, he lived his life with zest and always had a smile and a joke for everyone he
met. Dick graduated from Oakland High School and attended California Maritime Academy
and U. C. Berkeley. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #286, Scottish Rite and Aahmes
Shrine.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Darlene; his sons, Stephen of Woodland, CA and David of Walnut
Creek, CA and his daughter, Teri of Greenwich, CT, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doris
Mitchell of Pleasanton and stepbrother, Robert Carey of Paradise, CA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Dick's life at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May
31st at Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shriner's Hospital for Children,
care of Aahmes Shrine, 170 Lindbergh Ave., Livermore, CA 94550.
