Resident of Danville Formerly of San Leandro Edward T. Holmes passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Lee Holmes, his is survived by his son Steven, daughter Susan and son-in law Larry Fitzgerald. He was Papa Ed to granddaughters Jennifer Fuller and Amy Bankhead and to his great grandsons Bradley and Dylan Bankhead.
Ed was born in Oakland and attended Oakland High School. He then joined the Army 8th Air force, 392nd bomb group, flying B-24 Liberator missions over Europe during WWII. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Lee, settled in San Leandro to raise his family and began his 40 year career at Pacific Telephone. Ed was an avid weight lifter and loved hiking, fishing and vacationing at Lake Tahoe. He always appreciated an opportunity to celebrate and kept his social skills and sense of humor throughout his life. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing, taking long rides around the Bay Area and reminiscing about his WWII experiences.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will remember him for his sweetness, wit, and love of life. A memorial service is pending. You may contact the family at suefitz1@aol.com
