Robert Hamilton Barber On October 27, 2008, Robert Hamilton Barber died at the
age of 85 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his
wife of 52 years Artis, his sister Janet, his children Shelley, Craig, Loree and David along with
many loving grandchildren.
Bob was born in Oakland, California in 1923. He graduated from Oakland
High School and spent his college years at University of California at Berkeley. After College,
he served in the Army and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon returning
from the war, Bob accepted a job at FMC in San Jose where he worked 37 years until his retirement.
He married Artis Stayton in 1956, and the two of them settled in Los Gatos where they have lived for
52 years.
Those who knew Bob, knew of his love for gardening and his talents in the art of bonsai
which he pursued to the very end. He was also an avid Cal football fan and vigorously enjoyed the
perpetual Big Game rivalry between Cal and Stanford. Bob was a kind and gentle man whose quick wit
would often come alive in the evening hours.
Respecting Bob's wishes, the family will not be having
memorial services. Donations in Bob's name may be made to The Parkinson's Institute at 675 Almanor
Avenue in Sunnyvale, CA 94085 or to The Yosemite Fund, 155 Montgomery Street, Suite 1104, San Francisco, CA 94104.
