Earl Baker Marr Earl Baker Marr Passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Of The Pines in Auburn, CA on June 8, 2009, three days after celebrating 60 years of marriage to his wife, Marjorie Marr. Earl was born on July 20, 1922 in San Francisco, CA. He was third generation native Californian. His heritage dates back to the Gold Rush in 1849. He grew up In Oakland, CA where he graduated from Oakland High in 1940. He went to San Francisco City College for a short time before being inducted into the Navy and assigned to LCI (G) 366. After the war he went back to school and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a BS in Business. He worked first for Ryerson Steel Company, then for Zellerback Paper Company, in Sacramento, CA, where he retired in 1970. After spending many summers in Tahoma, CA during the 1950's, Earl purchased the Tahoe Cedars Water Company in 1962. He was the 3rd owner of a water company that originated in the early 1900's, with only summer water. In 1969 he completely redid the infrastructure of the system to supply the community year round water. Earl was a longtime resident of Tahoma for nearly 40 years. He was well known and well liked, as he gave of his time freely to help in any way he could. For many years he was president of the Tahoe Cedars Property Owners Association. Many in the community called him the ''Mayor of Tahoma'', although he never used that title! He was among those that created the ''Marie Sluchack'' Park in Tahoma. Earl also owned Westshore Realty, and was past president for the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors. He too, was a past member of the North Tahoe Historical Society, which he was both treasurer and President. He was instrumental in the creation of the ''Gate Keepers'' Cabin and Park. Earl Baker Marr Earl will be missed by many, but especially his family, including wife, Marjorie Marr; daughters, Marcie Dubreville and Amie Haskill; sons, Rob Marr and Chuck Marr; grandchildren, Kyle Dubreville, Aleesha McGehee, Shayla Haskill, Kendra Haskill, Mathew Marr and Stephanie Marr; his great-grandchildren, Connor and Caleb Mcgehee; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Althea Bloomingdale. A service will be held at the Gate Keepers Park in Tahoe City, CA on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 1:00. A Celebration of His Life will follow at the Tahoe City Golf Course. Family requests donations be made to the North Tahoe Historical Society, PO Box 6161, Tahoe City, CA 96145 in Earl's name, instead of flowers.
