Phillip Humphreys

Phillip Humphreys Phillip K. Humphreys, 73, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away December 7, 1995 after a lengthy struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Born May 22, 1922 in Burley, Idaho to Edward Parley and Mavis Lyman Humphreys. Was raised in Oakland, California and graduated from Oakland High School. Served in the Air Force in World War II and after his release from the service served a mission to Tahiti for the LDS Church.

Married Marjorie Hyde on June 4, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. She survives as do four children, Claudia Jerman and Debra Carlson of Sandy, Utah; Greg of Chicago, Illinois; and Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and their spouses; 13 wonderful grandchildren and a brother, Barry of North Carolina.

Phil attended BYU and the University of Maryland Dental School and upon graduation received a commissioned officer assignment with the U.S. Public Health Service. Retired in 1975. Entered private dental practice and retired in 1987. Was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and was devoted and loyal in whatever he was asked to do. Served in many leadership positions throughout his life. With his wife, Marjorie, served a mission to New Zealand in 1993-94 and labored part of that time in the Cook Islands where he was able to serve again among his beloved Polynesian people. Phil was a wonderful friend to everyone. He never knew a stranger. His outgoing and gregarious personality endeared him to everyone. He was truly a man without guile. His family were his priceless possessions and he loved them dearly. He was proud and complimentary of their accomplishments. He was an avid BYU fan, golfer and fisherman. Loved the out-of-doors.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 1995 at 12 noon at the Wasatch 6th Ward, 8100 South Top of the World Drive. Friends and family may call at the Mt. View Memorial Estates, 7800 South 3115 East, Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior at the ward. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund.
