Edward R. Carrick Resident of Alameda CA Ed was born on May 3, 1921 in San Francisco to Carlos and Jeahnette Carrick. In 1935 the family moved to Oakland where Ed attended Jr. and Sr. high school, graduating in 1940 from Oakland High School.
Later that year, Ed joined the US Navy. He was assigned duty station at Pearl Harbor. He is one of the Honorable Pearl Harbor Survivors. He served all over the Pacific Islands during the war, supporting the aviation branch of the navy. After the war he was assigned to China for two years performing similar task for the Navy in China. In 1946 Ed was assigned to the NAS in Alameda and Moffett, Mt View, where he worked with various air squadrons to keep planes at ready. In 1952 the Korean War broke out and again Ed answered the call. He was assigned to the aircraft carriers USS Princeton and the Bon Homme Richard which served as support ships in the Korean Conflict. In 1955 Ed returned to NAS Alameda where he completed his last 5 years of service to his country. He retired in 1960 as Chief Petty Officer in Aviation Ordinance. The next 34 years he operated his own business repairing antique furniture, lamps and light fixtures in Oakland. He retired completely in 1999.
Ed was a member of the Elks Club for over 50 years. He could also be found running around the Alameda golf course in his golf cart with his good buddy Tom Chase. He was a member of the Alameda Golf Course for over 35 years. Ed had a 36 handicap and you did not want to play him for money.
Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Carrick. He is survived by his loving daughter Judith Nelson Amrhein, his granddaughter Kimberly Phelps and his great granddaughter Mariah. He is also survived by his loving sister Yvonne Halloran, niece and nephew Michele Siegfried and James Halloran and great nieces and nephews Robin, Megan, John and Kevin. Private burial will be at the Golden Gate National Cemetery.
