Charles "Buddy" Wye

Block O 1920 - 2008 Resident of Oakland 87, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. He was born on December 26, 1920 in Oakland, CA to Charles and Rose Wye. He was raised on farms in Watsonville, Stockton and Locke, CA where his father was a potato farmer for the U.S. Army and his mother a nurse. He attended Sacramento High and Oakland High Schools and graduated in 1939. In 1940 he worked in the Kaiser shipyard. In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp and stationed in India. He served in the armor group where they fast patched planes with bullet holes. He earned American Theater Ribbon for Good conduct. Discharged in 1945, he worked odd jobs and then worked at the Naval Air Station in Alameda. In 1966 he traveled to Hong Kong where he met his wife Hung Fong through the grandmother of his family friend, Larry Wong. In 1967 he became a father to daughter Suzanne. From 1971 to 1986 he worked at and retired from World Airways at Oakland International Airport. During retirement, he traveled and took up Bonsai design.

His loving survivors include his wife Hung Fong, daughter Suzanne, son-in-law Devin, grandchildren Charlie and Sophie, cousins Betty and Craig Chung. Wake and Funeral Services are scheduled on Thursday, July 10, 2008, 5-8 P.M. and Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611. The interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
