Mrs. Richard (June A.) Vincent, 81, of 340 Franklin St., Galena, died at 8:39
p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at the Galena-Stauss Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kitchen, Miller &s; Steinke Funeral
Home, Galena, where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in
Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
Mrs. Vincent began working at the Galena Hospital when it opened in 1962. She
became charge nurse of the nursing wing until she retired in 1982.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Oakland, Calif., daughter of Frank and Helen
(Davis) Taylor.
She graduated from Oakland High School in 1939, and from the Samuel Merritt
Hospital School of Nursing in 1944.
She joined the Army in March 1945 as a second lieutenant.
She met Richard Vincent, a 3rd Class Ordinance man in the Navy, at a USO
while he was stationed in California. They were married at the Presbyterian
Church in Oakland on June 25, 1945. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding
anniversary.
After returning to Galena, they raised their three children.
She and Richard traveled extensively from the Midwest towards the West Coast,
visiting family and national parks.
Surviving are her husband, Richard J. Vincent; a son, Richard L. (Susan)
Vincent, of Cordova; two daughters, Kathy (Terry) Funston, of Galena, and Cheryl
(Floyd) Stees, of Lena; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two
step great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet (Don) Ravenscraft, of Sacramento,
Calif.; a brother, Robert (Marilyn) Taylor, of Reno, Nev.; and nieces and
nephews in California.
