Robert James Magliano Age 87, died peacefully at his home in Rossmoor on Monday, March 10, as a result of heart failure. Bob was born March 7, 1921 in Oakland, CA to the late William and Peterine Magliano. He graduated from Oakland High School and attended UC Berkeley prior to joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. Bob, a decorated war hero, flew 42 missions in World War II as a Bombardier Navigator and Squad Leader. He was stationed in France and England and ultimately achieved the rank of Captain. Bob was honorably discharged in 1945 at which time he returned to his beloved wife Dorothy, whom he married while in the service. Bob and Dorothy had two children and remained married until Dorothy's death in 1996.
Bob had a successful career in the automotive parts industry, first as a sales manager then ultimately as a partner/owner in his own firm, Magliano, Wilson and Dodds. In an industry marked by rough edges, he was highly regarded as a man of integrity, good manners and freshly shined Florsheim wingtips. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed an active retirement for the remainder of his life.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Claire Magliano, as well as his children Caron Ziegler and Randy Magliano, grandchildren Kirsten Ziegler, Misa Magliano and Elise Magliano. He is further survived by nephews Gary and Bruce Shipman, their children and many other loved ones and friends. In addition to his parents and wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by his brother William, and his sister Dolores. Bob will be remembered as a devoted family patriarch, lover of animals, great fishing companion, golfer and gardener extraordinaire, unwavering patriot, respected business man and Poppa Bob, the grandfather who doled out dollar bills at every family dinner. Memorial services for Robert Magliano will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. Anne's Church in Rossmoor, 1600 Rossmoor Parkway, Walnut Creek, CA.
