Douglas James Deasy Has passed away at the age of 90 in Marin County.
From an early age, his creative talents and enjoyable nature lead him into a full life filled with gratuitous accomplishments and consistent class. In his teenage years, Jim worked as a cartoonist for Oakland High. During his 20's he volunteered for U.S. Army where he was given the fine opportunity to travel to Germany for World War II. He joined the Combat Engineers and become a sergeant.
Once home from his European escapades he landed a job as copywriter for the San Francisco advertising agency BBDO. This launched Jim into a tremendously successful advertising career winning over 160 national and international awards, including a Clio Award. His warm, funny, intelligent, and honest nature made him many great friends within the business. He built up a fabulous reputation as a seasoned veteran of the advertising world. Upon retirement, his infamous reputation made him a desirable headliner at numerous advertising conferences and seminars around the country. He also taught advertising at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco where he was admired by many of his students whom later went on to have successful careers of their own within the ad business.
At 60 years old, as if still unsatisfied with his lavish accomplishments, Jim married a young woman from his agency and they had a son. An event he later explained as a result of him being "a slow learner". Jim continued to write and paint throughout his 80's and was always surrounded by his wonderful friends and family. Throughout his life Jim enjoyed a plethora of fantastic and wonderful accomplishments. Although none of the above can compare to his performance in the role of being a father. He was the greatest father a son could have. Always caring, loving, forgiving, and understanding he provided for his son through good times and bad. Providing everlasting support always with a positive outlook and a humorous attitude. Please contact James Deasy II regarding a celebration of Jim's life in San Francisco during late July.
