George Retelas

GEORGE RETELAS husband of Koula, father of Rev. James Retelas, Sam Retalas and Margarita Stathis, six grandcildren.

Born August 18, 1917 in S.F. died November 29, 2001 in Portland, OR. He was raised and educated in Oakland. Graduate of Oakland High School, attended Lassen and San Franisco Junior College.

Served in the Navy in WWII. Married Koula Kolombotos in 1951. Worked for Shell Oil Co., 28 years, retired in 1965, then owned and operated the Olympia Hofrau and Jim's Coffee Shop in Oakland. Longtime member of the Oakland Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, serving many years on parish counsel and as the Parish Youth Group adviser. Member of AHEPA Lodge and the Turtles and Men's Group.

Trisagion Service, Sunday, 7:00 p.m. with Funeral Service Monday at 11:00 a.m. both at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Ave., Oakland.

Interment Mt. Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the building funds of the Oakland Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the Greek Orthodox Church of the Resurrection of Castro Valley.
