Block O Bernice Ramacher, December 26, 1917 - July 9, 2009

Bernice Ramacher, 91 of Stockton passed away on July 9, 2009. She was born in Fresno on December 26, 1917 to William and Elizabeth (Barry) McGinness. Bernice attended school in Fresno and graduated from Oakland High School. She attended business college and then worked for Congressman Carter of Contra Costa County, followed by a job at the Alameda County Welfare Department. She married Leslie Ramacher on August 14, 1938 in Tillamook, Oregon. In 1942 the family moved to Alameda where Leslie worked for the Naval Air Base, and Bernice cared for their two children.

In 1952 Bernice moved with her husband and children to Stockton when Leslie and his father, Henry Ramacher, established a mechanical nut harvester business in Linden. She worked as the secretary-bookkeeper for the company. She was active in the Stockton Symphony League and was a supporter of the Haggin Museum. Her other interests included reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling.

Surviving relatives include her daughter Anne Ramacher; son Barry Ramacher (India); grandson Mark Ramacher (Diana) of San Carlos; granddaughter Erica Bartles (Steve); and five great grandchildren: Andrew Ramacher, Kate Bartles, Zachery Bartles, Carly Ramacher, and Samantha Ramacher.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2009 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way (near Beckman Rd.) in Lodi, with a graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Cherokee Memorial Park, hwy 99 at East Harney Lane in Lodi. Memorials may be expressed to Hospice of San Joaquin, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
