Virginia Engel Phillips Passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 4, 2006. She was 88 years old. Born on Sept. 15, 1917, Virginia was a native of Oakland, CA. She attended Oakland public schools, graduating from Oakland High and then went on to UC Berkeley, where she met and married her husband Harold Phillips. They had two children, Stephen and Janet. She was actively involved in Eastern Star, Oakland Parks and Recreation, Girl Scouting, her Sewing Club, FCCO, Merritt Hospital Volunteers and Alta Mira Club. She met some wonderful people who became life-long, dear friends. She was closely engaged in the lives of her two children, then later, in those of her three grandchildren. She also had the wonderful opportunity of knowing and loving her four great-grandchildren. She and her husband Harold were married 67 years. Her greatest joy was her family. We love and miss her very much. A family gathering was held Sept. 15.
