Glenn Thompson

A private family sea scattering will occur on April 13, for Glenn R. Thompson, 84, former long-time resident of Susanville, Calif., who passed away in Chico, on Tuesday, March 6, 2001. He was born in Escondido, Calif., Aug. 9, 1916. He graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, Calif. in 1933. He attended UC-Berkeley and received his BA and his masters in education from San Francisco State University. He married Jean McCougall on July 25, 1937,in Reno, Nev. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He began a 35-year career in education in 1941, as a sixth grade teacher at McKinley Elementary School in Susanville. In 1949, he joined the Lassen County Superintendent of Schools staff as the coordinator of audio visual services and child welfare and attendance officer. In 1963 he took office as the superintendent of Lassen County Schools. He remained the superintendent of schools until his retirement in 1976. He was a charter member of the Susanville Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

His wife, Jean, preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by his son, Robin Thompson, of Chico, Calif.; his daughter, Linda Hinman, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the David and Karen Egly Memorial Scholarship Fund c/0 CSUC Development and Advancement Dept. Chico, Calif. 99529-0155. His cremated remains will be respectfully scattered at sea off the coast of Marin County, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of No. Calif. Chico Branch.
