ARTHUR EDWARD WELCH, JR. Of San Lorenzo passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004 at San Leandro Hospital. He was 89. He was born in Berkeley, CA on December 4, 1914 and was raised in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School. Graduate of UC Davis, working as a dairy inspector before serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Retiree of the State Dept. of Motor Vehicles. A lifelong Mason, Arthur was a member of Fruitvale (now San Leandro Lodge) and a member of Castro Valley Order of Eastern Star as well as several other Masonic organizations. He was also an active supporter of Rainbow Girls for many years. An active longtime member of Fruitvale Presbyterian Church who sang in the choir for many years. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Stewart Welch, his two daughters, Phyllis Mejica and Suzanne Kinzli and his two sons-in-law, George Mejica and Philip Kinzli. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Heather and Joseph Mejica, Sarah and Lisa Kinzli as well as his sister-in-law, Dorothy Black and his brother-in-law, Donald Stewart. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Annie Welch and his sister, Grace Welch. Arthur's friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his life on Saturday, March 20th at 2 p.m. at Fruitvale Presbyterian Church, 2735 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA, 510-530-0915. Interment was private at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children or Fruitvale Presbyterian Church's Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
