Mildred Harris

Mildred Helmkamp Amick of Denver, an insurance company owner, died Dec. 5 in Arlington, Va. She was 95.

Services and entombment will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Fairmount Mausoleum, 430 S. Quebec St.

She was born April 7, 1902, in Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Oakland High School in California and attended the University of California at Berkeley. She married Elmer F. Helmkamp in 1921. He preceded her in death. In 1966 she married Carl G. Amick. He also preceded her in death.

She helped facilitate the U.S. government policy of recruiting civilian German scientists and their families to come to the U.S. after World War II. She was owner and operator of an insurance and real estate brokerage firm.

She was involved in the Optimist Club and Daughters of the Nile. Her interests included traveling.

She is survived by a daughter, Annabella W. DuBois, McLean, Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
