SAN FRANCISCO, March 3.
Frank L. Burkhalter, vice president of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, died here suddenly today. He studied engineering under his father,
a professor of the University of California. He started his career as a chain and rod man in a surveying gang for the railroad company he served
all his life.
He worked up through the ranks as section foreman, assistant engineer, general foreman, roadmaster, division engineer, district
engineer in Oregon, superintendent of the Portland (Ore.) division; assistant general manager for Northern California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah;
first assistant general manager, general manager for six Western States and finally vice president.
